Bridgewater

Many people would love to reside and raise a family in a setting of beauty, peace and infinite serenity; but also a place where they can find meaningful educational and occupational opportunities. The community of Bridgewater, New Jersey, is that rare community that builds an all-important “bridge” between these two important entities; supplying the ultimate place to work and the ideal place to live.

An environmental haven in every sense of the term, a full 3600 acres within this 32-mile community is devoted to parks both public and private as well as recreation spots.  These nature borne getaways take the form of expansive green spaces, trails, fields, athletic complexes and sports fields, and even an island park. And the area boasts a rich ecological history, having once been inhabited by a Native American tribe and—following its incorporation in 1899–morphing in its early years into an agricultural community.  And to this day the community is home to a number of thriving farms.

Yet those with a taste for the big city metropolitan life also will find much to like about Bridgewater, as it happens to be a fertile field rife with occupational opportunity. This area boasts the corporate offices of MetLife, J&J, and Sanofi-Aventis, and is a home to a number of pharmaceutical and biotechnology firms.  And Bridgewater’s top level schools do much to prepare students for careers at these and other top companies.

And regardless of their occupation or work schedule, everyone loves to have fun now and then; and in this arena as well, the community of Bridgewater does not lack for advantages or opportunities. Even longtime residents will feel as though they are on vacation when they shop at the Bridgewater Commons Mall, the Bridgewater Promenade, The Village at Bridgewater Commons, and Bridgewater Shops, take in a Somerset Patriots ballgame at Commerce Bank Ballpark, or visit preserved historic sites such as Middlebrook Encampment, Jacob Vosseller/Castner/Allen Tavern and Van Horn House.

Bridgewater also hosts a number of special events that bring both tourists and residents out in droves, including the Big Apple Circus in March, the 4th of July Family Fun Fair, a summer concert series and drive in movies at Duke Island, and the Jazz in Bridgewater concert. And people in town for any or all of these festivities can stay at any of five fine hotels located in Bridgewater, a community also served by newspapers, radio and TV stations, a library, film and performing arts theaters, and a convenient mass transit system.
